We all know the story by now. Cyberpunk 2077 was a shiny turd at launch on consoles. CD Projekt Red apologizes. The game is yanked off the PlayStation Store. Yadda, yadda, yadda.
Several updates later the game is at a much-improved state and is once again for sale on the PlayStation Store.
So what’s left? A next-gen patch for the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X!, Brah! CD Projekt Red has been telling us all year that it was coming, for free, before the end of 2021.
Not. So. Fast. My. Friend.
CD Projekt Red’s company’s SVP of business development Michał Nowakowski dropped the potential bad news during a shareholders meeting. That the Cyberpunk 2077 AND The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt current-gen updates might miss 2021.
The target is to release the next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 late this year. At the same time, keeping in mind the lessons we have learned during the past year and taking into account that this project still remains in development, we can’t say with full certainty that the production schedule will not change.
With The Witcher 3, the situation is slightly different in the way that this is being tackled by the external team mainly, which is Saber Interactive, the company that we have worked with before on Switch and also with updates in the past.
As with Cyberpunk 2077, our goal is to release that game still in late 2021. However, similarly, the development process is ongoing, and we cannot be absolutely dead certain that the release schedule will not change.
But for the time being, we definitely are aiming with both titles for late 2021 and I don’t want to be more specific at this moment in time.
All they’re trying to say is they don’t want you to be disappointed when they delay both into 2022. This whole entire situation that tarnished the name of CD Projekt Red could’ve been avoided had they delayed the console version another 8 months to a year.
But you gotta’ please shareholders before you please the fans, right?
