Haters are always going to hate but they can’t deny that The Last of Us franchise has been nothing but successful. Sales juggernaut. Critical darling. One helluva’ fandom.
So it’s only natural that Neil Druckmann already has the outline for The Last of Us Part 3 ready to go if the team at Naughty Dog ever decides to make it happen.
In an interview with Script Apart Podcast, Neil dropped a few morcels of information regarding the status of TLoUP3.
I don’t know how much I want to reveal… (co-writer Halley Gross) and I did write an outline for a story, that we’re not making – but I hope one day can see the light of day, that explores a little bit what happens after this game. We’ll see.
We’ve now had two games that I feel speak to something universal as well as telling a very personal story for these characters. With one game, there’s no pattern of what a franchise is. With two games, now there’s starting to be a pattern – now I feel like there are some structural and thematic themes you’d have to stick to if you’re making a third game.
While I do love the hell out of the first two games, I’m ready for Naughty Dog to introduce a new IP or two going forward.
The only issue with that is The Last of Us Factions mode is currently being worked on plus the rumor that Naughty Dog took over the reins of the The Last of Us Remake, they can’t see to get away from it.
