Via NPD, we now have concrete confirmation that the PS5 is the fastest-selling console in U.S history. An accolade, not too shabby for Jim Ryan, huh?

Overall, the gaming industry has had itself another monster month. Video game hardware sales shot up a whopping 47% in march, according to the NPD group. A growth, seemingly spearheaded by the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.
“March video game hardware dollar sales were 47% higher than a year ago, at a March record $680 million,” NPD analyst Mat Piscatella, reports. The previous high of $552 million was set in March 2008. Year to date hardware spending totaled $1.4 billion, an increase of 81% compared to a year ago.”
While the Nintendo Switch led the month again, the PS5 continues to break records in the U.S. Now, although Sony’s DualSense controller was the month’s best-selling accessory, the console certainly was no slouch. And it’s done so, with its heavy hitters yet to come, such as God of War, Returnal, Ratchet & Clank and Horizon.

It’s quite telling to see how well the PS5 continues to sell, even in light of shortages. The demand certainly has outpaced their supply, as they’re selling the consoles at record pace. Its a fascinating what if, to imagine how much would they sell if the supply wasn’t what it was.
