If you own a PS5 or hell, actively follow any of the major gaming sites OR you’re active on the social media gaming scene, you might have noticed that Astro’s Playroom is pretty freagin’ special.
If you’ve already played the game which comes installed on every PS5, then you already know what I’m talking about. This BRAHsome journey through the history of PlayStation is full of charming, magical gameplay that showcases what the DualSense can be, but also a reminder of how FUN gaming really can be.
If you missed our review, then take the time to see what’s so special about this game. It’s worthy of receiving a full-blown sequel with a meaty budget. Recently, the creative director of Astro’s Playroom, Nicolas Doucet mentioned that we would hear more about Astro with ‘news soon’ according to a post by Nicolas on the official PlayStation Blog.
However, speaking with EDGE magazine, that doesn’t seem to be the case. We’re not sure if the interview happened before or after the blog post.
At this moment in time, there’s no plan for an extension of Astro’s Playroom, but I think it’s going to come down to the popularity of the game. So far we’ve heard a lot from the media, and it’s been very positive, and we’re really, really happy. But a lot of it is going to come down to the consumer experience.
But at the same time, in Team Asobi we’re always trying to come up with ideas from technology, and so there are lots of things we want to try and do around the controller. And as we make these prototypes, if one of them turns out to be a game idea in its own right, it could end up being a new direction that we take and we’ll run with it. So it could be one or the other, but at this moment in time I don’t really know.”
I don’t know about the rest of you all but I would gladly spend my money on more Astro games if they’re anywhere near as good as Astro Bot: Rescue Mission or Astro’s Playroom. So make it happen, Jim Ryan!
