Earlier this week Sony reversed their bizzare stance on cross-play and the request from Gamers have been pouring in. Overwatch cross-play has always been highly requested, as Director Jeff Kaplan confirmed the team at Blizzard was looking into the possibility of it as recent as late 2018.
Now Blizzard has reconfirmed their interest in bringing cross-play to Overwatch. In an interview with Gamespot regarding the upcoming Nintendo Switch port and more Technical Producer Wes Yanagi talked about cross-play as how he would love to see it happen.
Cross-play is something that would definitely be compelling for players, and as a player, I would love to see it happen. The truth is that implementing cross-play for Overwatch is more difficult than people realize. We are exploring how to bring this to Overwatch, but do not have anything to share at this time
Guess all of those ‘easy as flipping a switch’ statements everyone loved to throw around regarding cross-play might have been exaggerated, eh?
